The Ministry of Housing and Works will soon launch the construction work on 1,600 high apartments at Sector G-13 Markaz soon.

Official of the Ministry told APP Saturday that no-objection certificate has already been issued by the Capital Development Authority.

He informed that under the new concept to utilize land area for maximum construction of high-rise apartments, Ministry was well set to launch the project Phase-VII.

The high-rise construction would have a covered area of 700-1500 square feet and comprise 14 storeys besides ground floor and two basements, he added.

The official said that M/S Engineering Associates and Engineering Management Consultants have been tasked for construction work.

It would be Ministry’s second major construction project after the one being launched at Bara Kahu and Murree Expressway (Phase- VIII) in November. About 3,000 apartments would be raised there to facilitate federal government employees in Islamabad.

A total of 4,600 apartments would be ready to provide accommodation to a large number of employees who are facing an acute shortage of residential facilities. According to data collected by the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation there are 135,060 federal government employees in Islamabad against available 24,000 housing units.

The total number of employees stands at 211,901, out of which 37,412 reside in Lahore, 25,723 in Karachi, 11,959 in Peshawar and 1,738 in Quetta.
