ISLAMABAD: A single-member bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday directed the Land Acquisition Collector to make due payments to G-14 settlers in the next two weeks.

The land has been acquired for allotment to federal government employees, journalists and lawyers.

The bench, consisting of Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Aslam, issued the directions during a petition by Insaaf Welfare Trust’s Chairman Dr Aslam Khaki and the G-14 affected people. It later adjourned proceedings till September 1.

The bench also observed that petitioners should approach appropriate forum in case of any reservations about payments.

It directed the committee, which was formed to settle controversy over built-up property in G-14, to expedite work.

The G-14 settlers complained to the court that they were being denied payment of outstanding dues. They also said the rates on which their land was acquired were far less than the existing market rates.

They said the CDA was to acquire G-14 land before handing its possession over to Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) for development of plots for federal government employees, journalists and lawyers. They said the CDA, however, could not do the needful.

Land Acquisition Collector Liaquat Ali Abbasi and Pak-PWD officials were also present in the courtroom.
