ISLAMABAD: A Russian Truck Manufacturing Company on Saturday expressed its keen interest in setting up an assembling plant in Pakistan for which Islamabad advised it to submit a written proposal so that their needs could be assessed and met. This was revealed in a meeting here at Engineering Development Board (EDB). A two-member visiting delegation of the company is currently visiting Pakistan and had already held preliminary discussions with some manufacturing units in Karachi for setting up the plant.

Asad Elahi, CEO of the Engineering Development Board, briefed the delegation about trucking policy of the government and welcomed their initiative. He said the strategic location of the country provided necessary opportunity for expansion of trucking sector.

The CEO referred to development of infrastructure especially motorways connecting different urban centres. A reference to recent trade agreements with neighboring countries was also made by him. Elahi added that Pakistan has broad based vendor industry which can support manufacturing of truck. CEO said the present tariff regime also encourages manufacturing of trucks in the country.

However, he said the new brand should be supported by a good after sale service facilities.

Mikhail Rudzko, the leader of the delegation, said that the firm was manufacturing 500 varieties of trucks and most of these are above five tons capacity
