Senate standing committee on cabinet secretariat and inter provincial coordination has expressed displeasure over award of contract for construction of zero point interchange to a black list company.

The senate committee also directed the cabinet secretariat to hold inquiry against the senior CDA officers involved in this matter and furnish inquiry report to the committee.

Committee met here Saturday under senator Shahid Bugti Saturday in parliament house.

The committee directed all the government departments not to include this company in any of their projects as Pakistan engineering council had cancelled its license. Committee also directed CDA to obtain surety bond from the company and recover the amount paid under the heads of consultation and designing. Expressing concern over expenses incurred beyond the estimated cost of the projects related to construction of high ways, committee said every one was plundering national kitty due to lack of effective accountability system.

CDA officials told the meeting that contract for designing and supervision of zero point interchange was awarded to EDIL company in December, 2006 while Karachi Shershah bridge collapse incident had occurred in September, 2007. Pakistan Engineering Council had not issued any directives for cancellation of contract of the company nor any notification had been provided to CDA about blacklisting of the company, they said.
