LAHORE: Lahore Corps Commander Lieutenant General Ijaz Ahmad Bakhshi inaugurated the expressway in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Sunday.

Addressing the occasion, Bakhshi, who is also the DHA president, said that the expressway would benefit the residents of all DHA phases. He said that the residents would not only have an alternate access to Allama Iqbal International Airport, but the expressway would also serve as a main artery. He said that construction of houses in Phase-VI would start in December. He said that the DHA had been designed after taking future requirements such as parking and commercial needs into consideration.

Earlier, DHA Administrator Brigadier Muhammad Aslam welcomed the corps commander. Aslam said that the DHA was the country’s leading housing authority. The 220-feet wide expressway would be stretched over 3 kilometres with a commercial area on both sides.

The groundbreaking ceremony of a 250-feet high tower would take place soon, he added.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) instructed all the power of the Management Committee of the DHA to the Lahore Corps Commander in 1991 after some members petitioned the court against authorising serving army officers to cast vote through postal ballot for electing the committee members.
