The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) and Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) have decided to ban the entry of donkey carts in all main bazaars.

The RCB spokesman told ‘The News’ that the number of vendors selling fruit and vegetables on donkey carts has increased manifold in Tench Bhata Bazaar, People’s Colony, Dhoke Syedan, Tariqabad, Dheri Hassanabad, Mughalabad, Kamalabad, Chur Harpal, Afshan Colony and other localities of the cantonment.

He said that their presence in these bazaars has aggravated traffic problems. Most of the time, traffic remains jammed in bazaars, especially during peak hours. Therefore, it has been decided to ban the entry of donkey carts in main bazaars, he added.

RCB Chief Executive Officer Rafi Aadil Siddique has directed the head of the Enforcement Cell to issue one-week notices to owners of donkey carts to stop their activities in all main bazaars of the cantonment. In the second phase, strict action would be taken against donkey cart owners, if they were found selling commodities in bazaars.

Chaklala Cantonment Board Chief Executive Officer Khursheed Ali Khan told ‘The News’ that action would be taken against donkey cart owners in the jurisdiction of the CCB.

He said that orders have been issued to the in-charges of enforcement sections for removing donkey carts from all bazaars within three days.

He said that the Enforcement Cell has also been directed to remove pushcarts and stallholders as well. The CEO made it clear that action would be taken against the concerned staff of Enforcement Cell, if any donkey cart was found present in bazaars after the operation.
