ISLAMABAD: Five people, including an Iraqi national and two women, were killed and three others injured when a suicide bomber targeted the World Food Program’s (WFP) office in the federal capital on Monday, said police officials.

The bomber struck at around 12:15pm in the lobby of the WFP office in the highly-guarded Sector F-8/3 – with around 80 employees busy in work, said an official. The Reuters news agency said the bomber was dressed as a paramilitary soldier and got into the WFP compound after asking a guard at the gate if he could use a toilet.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the attack was carried out by the Taliban. DIG (Operations) Bin Yamin confirmed that it was a suicide attack. “Police have recovered the bomber’s legs and head.”

He said police had confiscated the closed-circuit cameras installed on the premises, and some members of private security agencies were also being investigated. A joint investigation team – including officials from the FIA, the ISI and the IB – has been formed to investigate the attack.

Police sources said at least four people, including private security guards, had been taken into custody. The prime minister and the president have condemned the attack, in addition to the UN secretary general, the US ambassador to Pakistan and the US State Department.
