ISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf on Sunday indicated maximum reduction in loadshedding across the country in the upcoming days after inauguration of power plants in Faisalabad and Lahore.

Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the supply of gas to the Union Council Sahung, he said the elements, who criticised the power projects, were causing delay to it and loss of confidence of investors. He mentioned challenges the government had to face after coming to power, regretting that the previous government did not bother to resolve these issues in its nine-year tenure. “The great challenge we faced was the deteriorating condition of law and order, which caused a decline in investment,” he said, adding that the government, with the help of armed forces, had launched an operation to root out terrorism. The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), he said, proved a leap forward to alleviate poverty and make the poor capable of making them both ends meet respectably due to the manifold benefits presented by the programme. He expressed the hope that the BISP would become a catalyst to diminish poverty and sense of disappointment among the deprived sections of the society.
