ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) has set new speed limits last year but till date it has not fenced roads to avert accidents. Fast lanes like 7th Avenue, 9th Avenue, Islamabad Expressway, Margalla Road and Kashmir Highway need security fences the most. A CDA official told Daily Times the CDA had constructed pedestrian bridges over 7th Avenue and other roads but not fences. “Speeding vehicles can cause accidents on fast lanes which pedestrians try to cross from anywhere they want,” he said. He said safety fences would reduce chances of such accidents. He said the CDA needed to construct footpaths along main roads in addition to fences. “A number of accidents took place on Islamabad Highway because wild boars came on the road taking advantage of absence of fences. Yousaf Imam, a journalist, lost his life after his car hit a wild boar that appeared on the road out of nowhere. The accident prompted protests against the CDA but it had not erected fences yet. A motorist said driving at night had become harder due to absence of fences. staff report
