ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) has planned installation of automatic bollards in the city as a security measure.

Initially, bollards will be installed at 37 points in the Red Zone and later on, such posts will be put on the city’s other roads, it’s learnt.

According to a CDA official, the PC-1 of the Rs 1 billion project lying with the Cabinet Division is to be taken up and approved by the Development Working Party (DWP) during in the next meeting likely to take place shortly.

He said the Spanish government would provide Rs 1 billion grant to the authority for the bollard installation. He said a Spanish firm would fix bollards.

The official said the Interior Ministry had directed the CDA to plan putting up automatic security bollards in the city and submit a PC-1 in this respect to it. He said these directions were issued after the people complained to the ministry of restricted movement due to lots of road blockades placed in the city.

He said following the bollard installation, a good number of concrete barriers would disappear from the city roads and thus, easing traffic congestion.

The CDA official said the PC-1 of the bollard installation had been made in consultation with the Islamabad traffic police (ITP), which had complained to the authority of facing problems in managing traffic due to road blockades.

He said the CDA and the ITP had already identified points where the bollards were to be put up. According to him, the bollards to be installed will be of such a design that a vehicle will not get damaged even after impact. He said bollards would be guided by remote control.
