STARTING a new drive against polluters, the Environment Protection Department has sent challans of 27 industrial units including several brick kilns, sugar mills and rice mills to the Environment Tribunal for legal action.

The drive was started on the instructions of Secretary EPD, officials said, adding the challans sent to the tribunal for legal action included 13 polluters from Lahore, four from Nankana Sahib, two each from Kasur, Sheikhupura and Bahawalpur and one each from Khushab, Sialkot, Multan and Jhelum.

The challans of Lahore’s industrial units and commercial concerns included W-tribe, Bao Screen Printing, Amjad Bricks Company, Abdul Hafeez Bricks Company, Nadeem Bricks Company, Aslam Bricks Company, National Bricks Company, Akram Bricks Company, Omar Bricks Company, Ejaz Bricks Company, Unique Marble Industries, Khas Marble Industry and a case against a person for using generator.

The industries challaned in Nankana Sahib were Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills, Pakistan Rice Mills, National Rice Mills and Ameen Rice Mills. In Kasur, the EPD challaned Abdullah Tannery and Dr Latif Tannery.

Industrial and commercial units of Sheikhupura, Bahawalpur Khushab, Sialkot, Multan and Jhelum were Ishtiaq Cotton, K&S Halal Chicken, City Hospital Bahawalpur, Shadab Industries, Kohinoor Sugar Mills, Chenab lubricants, Jamil Bricks and Chest Clinic.

The EPD officials said that the drive against industrial and commercial polluters’ w2ould continue. They said the cases of all the above mentioned polluters were sent to the Environmental Tribunal after completing all the legalities including personal hearing notices, EPOs and final notices.
