ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday sought comprehensive report from District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rawalpindi about Chinar Park case and adjourned the hearing till October 2. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice (CJ) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing a suo motu and a petition about Chinar Park in Satellite Town, a posh area of Rawalpindi. The court has also issued notices to claimants of the park’s land. Habib Wahabul Khairi, counsel for the petitioners, argued before the court that Chinar Park was a part of the Satellite Town’s master plan, which was developed in 1950s. One Sultan Muhammad had already been compensated for the claimed land, he added. The park claimants have deployed about two dozens armed men on the premises of the park and erected a boundary wall around the 50 years old park. They have blocked the entrance of the local people including women and children to the park containing rare Maple (Chinar) trees. The residents of the area strongly protested over their claim and brought the issue to the notice of CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), Rawal Town. Recently the TMA officials demolished the concrete structure being built in the park. app
