* Arrested men confess they robbed 90 passengers

KARACHI: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Sindh police on Tuesday arrested criminals allegedly involved in looting passengers arriving at the Karachi International Airport.

DIG Investigation, Ghulam Qadir Thebo in a press conference at the old CIA Centre, Saddar, claimed to have arrested notorious criminals who have been robbing passengers on their way home from the Karachi airport.

DIG Thebo further informed that the accused Shehzada alias Shehbaz, alias Kashif alias Bandhani and his accomplice Muhammad Shakil were arrested on a tip-off from Gulshan Chowrangi at Rashid Minhas.

According to details the SIU team intercepted a car, bearing no AQH-650, on which the culprits started firing on the police party but after a brief encounter the police arrested both the accused and recovered a Kalashnikov, a 9mm pistol and a car from their possession.

He said during initial course of investigation the accused confessed to have robbed almost 90 passengers who came from abroad.

The DIG explained that first they followed the passengers on their way out of the airport and looted them by intercepting their cars in any abandoned place. Normally they used to loot valuables at adjoining areas of Shahrah-e-Faisal.

The DIG further informed that the accused have maintained several accounts in different banks to save their booty while they also invested their money in Dubai where their a man named Furqan runs a business and sends profit to the accused.

The culprits have served in jail twice. They started criminal activities in 2009. Further investigations are under way, the DIG said.
