Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi has announced that the old system of ‘khuli kutcheries’ and sector citizen committees will be revived to resolve the problems of the residents of the federal capital urgently.

The CDA chairman stated this while inaugurating the ‘improvement of water supply system in sector G-11/1 on Wednesday. He said that the ‘khuli kutcheries’ and the sector citizen committees will help bring in the representatives of residents in improvement of conditions, particularly in the areas of water supply, sanitation and sewerage problems. The spokesman for the CDA said that the Director General (Water Management), Sanaullah Aman, briefed the CDA chairman about the longstanding issue of non-availability of water in some pockets of G-11/1 due to uneven level of the ground. Resultantly, he informed, the residents of the area were facing acute shortage of water in some pockets located at the high level in the sector.

The CDA chairman inaugurated an under-ground water reservoir having capacity of 125,000 gallons of water, which has been constructed at Sector G-11/1 in consultation with the Welfare Committee to receive water from the source and thereafter pump it to worst-hit areas with the help of three turbine pumps installed for the purpose.

The CDA chairman said that with the construction of under-ground water tank, a sustainable improvement in the supply of water has been achieved and the numbers of complaints in the area have decreased by 80 to 90 per cent, bringing about relief to the people of this sector. CDA chairman also agreed to install a filtration plant at the same location where the under-ground water tank has been constructed for the residents of Sector G-11/1.

He also directed the concerned directorate to increase the timings of water supply from the newly constructed water tank by one hour to make water available to the residents all the time. He also said that one water tanker would be placed at the disposal of the Welfare Committee of Sector G-11/1 to overcome any shortages of water anymore. The CDA chairman said that the up-lift and up-gradation of neglected sectors like Sectors of ‘G’ and ‘I’ series would be given preference and maximum funds would be allocated for betterment of these sectors. He also said that CDA has launched a campaign for water conservation and all those found wasting water, would be penalised.
