LAHORE: In view of the traffic density and parking problems, parking plazas are being constructed in Liberty Market while a “Park and Drive” project is being started on MM Alam Road, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif said on Sunday.

He said this in a meeting held at the CM’s Secretariat to review development projects in Lahore. The CM said infrastructure development was of vital importance for the rapid progress of the province and all available resources were being used for it. He said roads were being improved in the city to rid people of the haphazard flow of traffic and trees were also being planted for beautification. He said a project to improve and rehabilitate Multan Road had been initiated and would save citizens from traffic jams and also facilitate those coming from other cities.

He said Multan Road was being widened from Thokar Niaz Baig to Chowk Chauburji and the project would prove to be a milestone in the development of the province.

He said timely completion of development projects was being ensured in the interest of the people. He directed the Traffic deputy inspector general (DIG) to take steps to maintain a smooth traffic flow in the city. The LDA director general and NESPAK general manager gave a briefing about different development projects.

Meanwhile, a female student Hafiza Sakeena Sania, who obtained a prominent position in the matriculation examinations, met the CM along with her parents. The CM congratulated her on her success and awarded her a merit certificate. He said the fact that Sania had learnt the holy Quran after class five, obtained admission in class 9 and obtained a prominent position in the Matriculation examinations showed her abilities. He advised the student to continue focussing on her studies to achieve greater successes in academics.

He said the promotion of science and technology was needed for the nation’s development and prosperity.

He said the Punjab government was taking effective measures to uplift the education sector, to eliminate the ‘booti mafia’, and to encourage teachers and talented students. He said the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund had been set up to enable talented students to continue their education, unhindered by financial problems.
