LAHORE: Under the public-private partnership, a low-cost housing scheme is being started to provide residential facilities to low-income groups across the province, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shabaz Sharif said on Monday.

He was addressing a meeting on low-cost housing schemes at the CM’s Secretariat. The CM said accommodation was the basic need of human beings. He said residences under the scheme would be provided to those who did not already have a house. He said a plan in this regard would be devised within a week.

Shahbaz said the government was initiating a scheme to provide residence to homeless people and under the scheme 46,000 homeless families would be accommodated by providing them free five-marla residential plots. The CM said the government would complete the project with the collaboration of the private sector. He said under the housing schemes cities, would be developed near airports and motorways, where all necessary facilities would be provided. He said the government would provide land while the private sector would do the construction.
