Flood-like situation on Islamabad roads

HEAVY RAIN

Various roads in Islamabad presented a flood-like situation when heavy rain lashed the city Friday.

However, the newly constructed 9th Avenue proved too good for heavy rains as there was not even a small portion where any problem was caused to fast-moving traffic during or after the rain. The water continued to drain during heavy rain as motorists ply their vehicles on this busy road without any problem.

On the other hand, the scenes of traffic jam were witnessed on various main and sectoral roads particularly it was quite difficult to drive the vehicle as the rain water immediately flooded depressed areas of roads and on bridges.

The traffic was moving slowly on Margalla Road which was expanded about a couple of years back but apparently without any solution to proper and fast drainage of rainwater. The traffic was almost jammed on F-8 portion of Margalla Road as the rainwater flooded a bridge located in depression near Shaheed Chowk.

Some motorists were seen pushing their vehicles out of water while others trying to cross the problem area one by one. The bridge cleared from water about couple of hours after it stopped raining.

The traffic was again jammed on I J Principal Road from Pindora Chungi to Katarian Chungi as the open drains got choked. The situation got worst when traffic police personnel ran to shelters after it started raining.

However, as there was half working day on Friday, most of the vehicles were off the roads, otherwise situation could have been more horrible.
