ISLAMABAD: Date for possession of plots to the allottees of Sector D-12 would be announced soon, said Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi on Tuesday.

Elahi was talking to media persons at a ceremony held at Sector D-12 in connection with the first National Tree Plantation Day (NTPD), said a press release.

Elahi said green belts, avenues and parks of new sectors would be made lush green with new plantation to make Islamabad clean and green.

Federal Minister for Environment Hameedullah Jan Afridi and Special Initiatives Lal Muhammad Khan, Members of National Assembly, schoolchildren, representatives of non-governmental organisations, citizen committees, traders, educational institutions, environmentalists and government employees participated in the event.

Apprising the ministers about the CDA initiatives regarding the NTPD, the CDA chairman said all the segments of the society had been involved in the plantation campaign. He said during the Monsoon season plantation campaign CDA had planned to plant 0.120 million saplings in urban areas along different avenues, highways and in the green belts, parks, play fields and new sectors. He said 0.280 million saplings would be planted in the rural areas of the federal capital including Margallah Hills and Simly Dam catchment area.

He said on the NTPD, CDA was planting 0.1 million saplings on different sites, including 60,000 in the Margallah Hills, 25,000 in Sector D-12 and 15,000 along the Islamabad Highway.

He said CDA had already launched a three-year special campaign “Clean and Green Islamabad” in Monsoon 2008. Under this campaign, 2.4 million saplings will be planted in different parts of the city, he said, adding, CDA had so far planted 0.769 saplings including 0.390 million during monsoon 2008 and 0.379 million during Spring 2009. He said in the current monsoon season CDA had set a target to plant 0.4 million saplings.

Elahi said CDA had established five sale point kiosks at prominent places including Jinnah Avenue, Shahrah-e-Kashmir and Islamabad Highway.
