NEW YORK: Reacting sharply, leader of the Tehrik-e-Insaf, Imran Khan has said that the announcement of impeachment of President Musharraf is another attempt to buy more time to rule the country and deceive the people of Pakistan.

He advocated his contention that the decision to impeach Musharraf Pervez was another move to legitimise the Presidency of Musharraf Pervez. He also said that his party along with the APDM parties will launch a peaceful movement from August 14. "I am concluding my visit to the USA to reach Islamabad for that purpose." He also condemned the sudden appearance of Dr Aafia Siddiqui in a New York Court, after five years of mysterious disappearance in Pakistan.

In his interview with "The News" in New York, Imran Khan said that courts had yet to decide if Pervez Musharraf was a legitimate president or not. Once the courts make this decision on his presidency, only then a decision about impeachment can be made.

He raised the issue that only a legitimate and elected president can be impeached under the Constitution. Impeachment will mean that these parties in alliance recognise Pervez Musharraf as the legitimate president of the country, though he is usurper and violator of the Constitution.

He said: "First, tyhe judges should be restored and they should give a verdict whether Pervez Musharraf is a legitimate President of Pakistan. Only after the judicial verdict, decision to impeach him should be considered."
