Islamabad: Pakistan and China Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for establishment of the Pakistan-China University of Engineering, Science and Technology, says a press release.

HEC Executive Director Dr. Sohail Naqvi signed the MoU on behalf of the Higher Education Commission, while Professor Lin Jintong, rector of the Pakistan-China University (PCU), represented the consortium of seven Chinese universities, led by the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Secretariat. Chinese Ambassador Luo Zhaohui and HEC Chairman Professor Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman witnessed the signing ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman said that it was a historic occasion for both countries. “The cordial relations between Pakistan and China have always been exemplary and this project, the first of its kind, will further strengthen our friendship,” he said.

The Chinese ambassador appreciated the efforts of the HEC and the Chinese consortium for carrying out a unique project that, he said, has added a new chapter in the history of Pakistan-China relations. “No doubt, the project has a great significance. The enthusiasm with which both the partners have worked is commendable,” he said.

Initially the Pakistan-China University will function in Sector H-8/1. However its permanent campus will be located along Kuri Road, Islamabad. The MS classes will start in October this year. The construction of the new campus will begin next year. Within five to six years, the university will have a developed physical and technological infrastructure.
