ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iraq on Saturday agreed to operate 14 flights in a week between various cities of both countries.

“Talks on Bilateral Air Services Agreement with Iraq were held today at the Ministry of Defence deciding to allow designated airlines of each side to operate fourteen weekly frequencies.

The destinations in each country have also been increased from one to five,” a press release of the Ministry of Defence said.

Additional Secretary Major General (Retd) Mir Haider Ali Khan led the Pakistani delegation, whereas Capt Kifah Hasan Jabbar headed the Iraqi delegation.

The talks were held in a friendly cordial atmosphere. After thorough deliberations and keeping in view the good relations between the two countries, it was decided to enhance the existing number of frequencies so that the carriers of both sides, desiring to operate their services, could be facilitated.

Besides the already designated airlines — the PIA and Iraq Airways from Pakistan and Iraq respectively, private sector airlines of Pakistan Airblue and Shaheen Air International were also designated to operate their services.
