Karachi: The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) recently launched a new mega project “Defence Housing Authority City” on the Super Highway to be developed as a model residential estate.

The Defence Housing Authority has said the master planning of approximately 12,000 acres acquired for the Defence Housing Authority City project. Meanwhile, the Defence Housing Authority has invited applications for the allotment of plots in the scheme, the Defence Housing Authority spokesman said in a statement on Saturday.

He said that the Defence Housing Authority held a meeting with Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) officials and assured them that the Defence Housing Authority gave utmost consideration to the environmental laws and this aspect would adequately be addressed during the master planning of the scheme. SEPA on receipt of the Defence Housing Authority’s response had conveyed to the authority in writing that the DHA had not violated Sec 12 of the Environmental Act 1997 by launching the said scheme, said the Defence Housing Authority spokesman.

The SEPA has also extended concurrence to the strategy adopted by DHA for compliance to environmental laws, he added.

The spokesman claimed that SEPA had never barred the DHA from constructing its new residential scheme on the Super Highway.
