KARACHI: Cement sales in July, the first month of fiscal year 2009-10, showed a strong growth, recording an increase of six per cent compared to the same month last year. Exports once again pushed overall sales as they were up 41 per cent year-on-year, while local supplies posted a decline of 10 per cent. Exports of cement were up 41 per cent to 1.1 million tons compared to last year. However, local dispatches fell 10 per cent to 1.6 million tons on account of slower-than-expected economic recovery. Total dispatches came in at 2.8 million tons. Month-on-month basis, total sales showed a decline of 10 per cent, driven by 13 per cent drop in local sales and six per cent in exports. DG Khan Cement and Lucky Cement both posted a strong sales growth of 32 per cent and 35 per cent respectively compared to last year, JS Research reported on Monday.
