ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Development Working Party (IDWP) on Saturday approved six schemes valuing Rs 196.32 million to improve health facilities in the capital’s rural areas and strengthen police.

The schemes were approved during a meeting chaired by the city’s chief commissioner, Fazeel Asghar. Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kaleem Imam, Deputy Commissioner Amer Ali Ahmed, ICT Director (Development and Finance) Anita Turab, and senior officials of police, the Planning and Development Division, the Interior Ministry and Federal Directorate of Education attended the meeting.

According to an official, the meeting approved establishment of a basic health unit (BHU) in village Kirpa at the estimated cost of Rs 36.95 million. The chief commissioner objected to allotment of only four kanals of land for the BHU and asked the ICT administration to allot more land for the proposed facility.

The meeting also sanctioned Rs 38.787 million for the purchase of 30 horses, construction of 30 stables and creation for mounted police unit of ICT police for protection of visiting dignitaries, diplomats and VVIPs.

Among other approved projects were the Rs 39.815 million renovation of the capital’s police stations; the Rs 38.444 million rehabilitation and renovation of offices and police barracks in the H-11 Police Lines; the Rs 29.9 million repair and maintenance of green area barracks in the city.

The IDWP also approved Rs 12.425 million for purchase of three mobile dispensaries for the capital’s rural areas and payment of salary to the staff of these dispensaries.

During the meeting, the chief commissioner directed the officials concerned to take a final review of these schemes along with their estimated cost to complete the required formalities.
