JERUSALEM (July 27 2009): The Israeli navy says it has successfully tested the latest model of its Barak ship-borne anti-missile system. A military statement said the test missile was fired from an Israeli navy vessel at a target representing an attacking projectile, and ``the incoming missile was successfully intercepted.'

Video released by the Israeli military Sunday showed the vertically launched Barak leaping skyward from the deck of the missile boat, identifying its target, dropping to skim a few yards above the surface of the sea and exploding a few seconds later. The apparently successful test followed three failures of the Arrow, designed to intercept missiles fired from Lebanon, Syria or Iran. Experts said the failures were not serious setbacks.
