KARACHI: An office bearer of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mohaz (JSQM) was killed and another man injured when assailants opened fire at a JSQM rally on Friday near Safoora Goth within Malir Cantt police precincts.

One of the assailants was also killed while another sustained injuries and was arrested.

JSQM Chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi has announced a two-day wheel-jam strike and seven days of mourning across Sindh over the assassination of the JSQM leader.

As per details, the incident took place when the JSQM rally headed by Qureshi, was passing Safoora Goth to stage a protest at the Super Highway against the killing of fellow party worker, Zulfiqar Mallah, who was gunned down on July 15.

Shah Faisal Town SP Abdul Qayyum Patafi told Daily Times that two of the four assailants began aerial firing when the rally reached Safoora Chowrangi, and then fired on Qureshi’s car.

As a result, Mushtaq Khaskheli, JSQM’s Thatta president, who was in Qureshi’s car, sustained injuries and died shortly while another JSQM worker was wounded.

The JSQM activists returned the fire, killing one of the attacker, Mustafa Zahid Baloch, and injured another named Ejaz, who was later arrested
