ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Chief Commissioner Fazeel Asghar on Saturday directed the officials concerned to speed the construction work of Barri Imam Shrine Complex.

He made these directions while presiding over a meeting attended by Islamabad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amer Ali Ahmed, ICT Development and Finance Director Anita Turab, Capital Development Authority (CDA) Project Director Sajjad Zaidi and ICT Deputy Director Auqaf Asim Ayub, said an official of ICT.

Asghar reviewed the progress on the construction work of the complex. He directed the officials concerned to accelerate the project work in order to ensure its completion within the stipulated time, said the official.

The meeting decided to convene a meeting of Management and Development Committee of the Barri Imam Shrine within 15 days to review the overall progress of the project.

Zaidi informed the meeting participants that construction work of the complex would be completed in two phases. He said in the first phase 27 percent work had been completed including construction of main shrine, minarets and other civil work.

Zaidi further informed the meeting that the first phase would cost Rs 263 million and it is expected that it would complete within next six months.

He said in the second phase the authority would construct a mosque, private rooms and hall for devotees, Auqaf office, main compound and public toilets. The new building would accommodate 44,000 devotees at a time, he said.
