LAHORE: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta has asked all the town municipal administrations (TMA) to finish construction work on dug-up roads for services, including the installation of sewerage pipes, within 36 hours.

A press statement issued by the DCO office stated on Tuesday that the decision was taken to avoid any untoward incident or inconvenience to the people due to massive digging work right before the start of monsoon. It said some digging still lay pending in a large number of places across the city.

A number of citizens had complained earlier through different media reports that the dug-up roads and uncovered drains in the city could cause serious accidents, especially because of the stagnant water that accumulates due to monsoon rains. The DCO also directed the town administrations to provide feedback regarding the completion of these projects within 36 hours or face disciplinary action. Bhutta issued instructions to provide proper lighting around open construction sites, adding that action would be taken against those who failed to comply with the orders. He directed TMA officials to hold a survey of dilapidated buildings that need repair work and fix them in time to avoid any accidents during heavy rains.
