LAHORE: The Environment Protection Department has issued show-cause notices to 282 pathology laboratories for not implementing the Hospital Waste Management Rules 2005, causing spread of contagious diseases among the masses.

This was stated by Punjab EPD Secretary Sajjad Saleem Hotiyana in a press conference here on Friday. He said the decision of launching the campaign against pathology labs was taken last month.

He said the department had issued show-cause notices to 63 pathology laboratories in Lahore, 52 in Faisalabad, 12 in Sialkot, 15 in Dera Ghazi Khan, 16 in Rawalpindi, 14 in Okara, 11 in Gujranwala, 11 in Sargodha, 57 in Multan, 21 in Lodhran and 10 in Narowal.

The EPD secretary said all the district governments in the province were asked for immediate implementation of the Hospital Waste Management Rules 2005 in letter and spirit besides taking strict legal action against the defaulters.
