Islamabad: Almost 56 per cent men and 55 per cent women in Pakistan claim to assist each other in running the household, as per the findings of a survey conducted by Gilani Research Foundation/Gallup Pakistan.

There are some chores inside the house with which men claim to help and women are also believed to partake in running errands outside the house. However, the survey said there still is a significantly high percentage of men (43 per cent) and women (44 per cent) who do not take each others’ responsibilities, instead they play the role that the local customs and socialisation has described for them.

A nationally representative sample of men and women from different parts of the country were asked, “Many men help out with household chores such as house cleaning, washing dishes, teaching children, etc. To what extent do you or other men in your family help with the household chores?”

Overall, nine per cent believe that men help with the household chores to a great extent, 47 per cent claimed they help to some extent while 43 per cent of the respondents said they or other men in their families do not help at all with the household chores.
