Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan is optimistic that the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) and other district governments in Sindh would be saved from political differences and they would be given a fair chance to serve the masses. He was speaking on Thursday as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of Jheel Park (adjacent to Tariq Road).

“The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is in coalition with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). The two parties have, no doubt, developed differences but that is to be expected in a coalition setup.

Sincere and genuine efforts are, however, being made to save these institutions so that they could serve the people without any discrimination,” Khan said, adding that political issues have to be resolved politically.

Regarding reports that the local government (LG) system would be rolled back, the governor said that this was the job of the National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) and any decision to this effect would be taken through mutual consultation of the provinces.

Dr Khan assured that federal and provincial governments would continue extending support to CDGK so that development works should continue uninterrupted.

City Nazim Mustafa Kamal said that Jheel Park was encroached upon by the land mafia.

The area was then cleared out by the city government.

The park is spread over 20 acres and its development work was completed in eight months at a cost of Rs100 million.
