ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) ticked 420 Very Important Personalities (VIPs) during the current year remaining steadfast to the basic objectives defined at the time of its inception in January 2006.

ITP personnel ensured equal implementation of law and did not spare even the ministers and police officials on traffic violations.

Of 420 ticketed VIPs, 13 were federal ministers, five provincial ministers, three ambassadors, 111 army men, six Navy officials, 22 officials of Air Force, nine senior police officials, 25 families and drivers of VIPs, 33 senior government officials, two celebrities, five Nazims, 28 Members of National Assembly, 12 senators, 15 Members of provincial assemblies, 10 secretaries, six additional secretaries, three deputy secretaries, three advisors to prime minister, two officials of judiciary and two journalists.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Dr Sultan Azam Temuri said his force was fully committed to its vision of ensuring equal implementation of the law.

“Whether there is any VIP or common people on the road, every one is equal for us and it is our responsibility to save his life through implementation of traffic rules,” he added.

The SSP said it was priority of ITP to ensure safe road environment in capital and every possible effort was being made to facilitate the citizens.

Temuri said ITP help unit (1915) provided help to 5,586 people who were deserted on the roads due to break down of their vehicles, finishing of fuel or some other reason.

“We do accommodate the opinion of the citizens and respect their viewpoint. In case any citizen expresses dissatisfaction over issuing fine tickets, a complete inquiry is conducted keeping in view all aspects to satisfy the road users,” he added.

He said a total of 24 complaints were registered against the police officers, which were decided on merit. app
