The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) director general, Dr. Rizwan Naseer, reviewed the data of emergencies and rescue operations of the first six months of 2009.

According the data, the Service rescued 97,688 emergency victims as compared to 63,397 of first six months of 2008.

The Service conducted 91,387 rescue operations in first six months of 2009 in comparison with 63,170 rescue operations during first six months of 2008 in all major cities of the Punjab. Regardless of increase in number of emergencies the Service has maintained its average record response time of less than 7 minutes and provided citizens with a sense of safety.

The Service is operational in Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Murree, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Sahiwal. The expansion of the Service to the remaining districts of Punjab is underway.

The total number of emergency victims rescued by Rescue 1122 were 97,688 in the first six months of 2009, which include 32910 in Lahore, 11,666 in Faisalabad, 3,855 in Rawalpindi, 11,199 in Multan, 6,138 in Bahawalpur, 5,039 in Dera Ghazi Khan, 4,678 in Rahim Yar Khan, 4,571 in Sialkot, 8,576 in Gujranwala, 3,886 in Sargodha, 1,076 in Murree and 4,094 in Sahiwal. The emergency calls to which Rescue 1122 responded during the first six months of 2009 include 40 per cent road traffic accident, 56.11 per ceont Medical & Other emergencies, 4 per cent fire incidents, 0.18 per cent building collapse incidents and 0.06 per cent explosions.
