Computer hardware and accessories prices rise

By Muhammad Yasir

KARACHI: The prices of computer hardware and accessories have increased by 15 to 20 percent in the local markets as the fresh import started arriving after duties enhancement and the recent rupee depreciation, dealers said Wednesday.

According to them, the rates of major computer hardware and accessories have increased by Rs 500 to Rs 8,000, depending on their brands that include laptop, LCD screen, monitor, mother board, processor, printer, scanner, DVD drive, keyboard, mouse and other etc.

They said prices of average capacity laptop have increased by Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000 as laptop prices are varied from Rs 37,000 to Rs 200,000 per piece depending on its accessories configuration.

Senior vice president Pakistan Computer Association (PCA), Muhammad Yaseen said the traders have started imports of computer hardware in limited quantity as their import-cost has increased sharply after enhancement in duties and rupee depression against dollar.

Only the big players of the computer market have continued their imports in bulk quantity but majority of medium and small importers have diminished their import for past three weeks, he added.

He said the small dealers have been offloading their old stocks at comparatively low rates in the markets in order to continue their business on reasonable profit margins.
