KARACHI: A balanced budget for the fiscal year 2009-10 was announced for Shah Faisal Town with an outlay of Rs 460.99 million. Shah Faisal Town Nazim Irtaza Farooqui tabled the budget in the Shah Faisal Town Council, which approved the budget unanimously.

The budget carries allocations worth Rs 21.84 million on the expenditure side, which comes to 46 percent of the whole budget while the allocations for the non-development expenditures have been Rs 25.15 million. The revenue to be generated from Shah Faisal Town’s indigenous resources has been estimated at Rs 45.91 million.

In his formal speech at the time of presenting the annual budget, Farooqui claimed that Rs 290.31 million would be received in terms of octroi and zilla tax, Rs 50 million from property and conservancy taxes, Rs 400 million from other sources including trade licenses fee, Rs 100.76 million from deposits on behalf of works and services contracts, 10 million from the City District Government in terms of recovery of the outstanding dues, Rs 500 million from Water and Sewerage Board and Karachi Building Control Authority, Rs 1.5 million from rural octroi share and Rs 1 million from grant from Sindh Devolved Social Security Programme.

Farooqui further explained that the Shah Faisal Town would spend Rs 120.68 million on employees’ salaries while office expenditures would be met with Rs 120.46 million. The Shah Faisal Town would spend Rs 5 million on renovation of storm water drains and Rs 900,000 on improvement of water infrastructure, Rs 40 million on construction and repair of Town office and sub-offices.

Farooqui praised Muttahidda Qaumi Movement leader Altaf Hussain for patronising the development and beautification tasks in Shah Faisal Town due to which the town administration has served its people in an outstanding manner.

He also lauded the unending support of City Nazim Mustafa Kamal and councillors for facing the challenges and resolving the people’s problems.

Rs 1.3bn budget for Jamshed Town

KARACHI: Jamshed Town Nazim Javed Ahmed presented a surplus budget for the fiscal 2009-10 with an outlay of Rs 1.3 billion in the Jamshed Town Council. Jamshed Town Naib Nazim Ziauddin Kamal convened the budget session, while the council approved the budget unanimously. This is the third time that the Jamshed town nazim has managed to have the budget approved unanimously during the past four years. Ahmed said the Jamshed Town would spend Rs 610.11 million on development canvas while non-development profile would be Rs 410.90 million. Thus the budget is surplus with Rs 5.52 million. Ahmed said that special funds have been reserved for development schemes worth Rs 2,500,000 works through lady councillors and councillors belonging to the minority seats. staff report

Rs 750.69m for N Nazimabad Town

KARACHI: North Nazimabad Town Nazim Mumtaz Hameed presented a tax-free fiscal 2009-10 budget for the town with an outlay of Rs 750.69 million. The budget was tabled in the North Nazimabad Town Council under the chair of Naib Nazim Ahsan Ullah Khan. The budget was presented with necessary amendments and was approved. Speaking on the occasion, Hameed He said that the North Nazimabad Town would gain revenue Rs 385.5 million through matching draft while Rs 90 million are expected to be earned from property tax. The revenue from other sources is expected to be Rs 281.45 million. Hameed said that Rs 386.65 million have been reserved while Rs 370.142 million would be spent on non-development profile. Thus, the budget would be a surplus budget with Rs 0.163 million. staff report
