RAWALPINDI: Traffic wardens on Sunday saved the life of dozens of road users by blocking traffic between Marir Hassan Chowk and Moti Mahal Chowk on Murree Road when an 11,000-volt power line came crashing down giving off showers of sparks. Traffic was moving along on the city’s main artery when at around 5:15 pm an 11,000-volt power line came off from a service pole and fell down on the road. Sensing the danger, over 10 traffic wardens immediately blocked the traffic on either side between Marir Hassan Chowk and Moti Mahal Chowk. A traffic warden told Daily Times that Rescue 1122 and Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) authorities had been informed about the incident soon after the incident. He said half an hour had passed since the relay of information to the WAPDA authorities but of no avail. There were long lines of vehicles on the two sides of the road with the visibly upset motorists sweating buckets under the blazing sun. Relief came when after about 40 minutes WAPDA officials reached the spot and removed the wire from the road. staff report
