MANSEHRA: The government has decided to acquire land for beginning the work on Hassanabdal-Mansehra expressway, sources said Saturday.
Sources said Provincial Minister for Food Shuja Salim Khan met Federal Minister for Planning Makhdoom Ahmad Alam on Saturday and apprised him of the problems that delayed the construction of the road. Shuja said following the October 8, 2005 earthquake, traffic from Hassanabdal to Mansehra had drastically increased, causing slow travel on the road. In addition to traffic jams, Shuja Khan added, ratio of the accidents on the route had also risen.
Makhdoom Ahmad Alam said the government was keen to launch work on the expressway, as it would also link Bhasha Diamar with the rest of the country. He said the government would soon start acquiring land and earmark funds to pay money to the owners whose land would be used.
