The federal government is set to announce an allocation of Rs151.804 million for 12 new development schemes in social welfare and special education sector in its budget 2009-10 to be presented today, according to the documents available with ‘The News’.

The total outlay of the 12 new development schemes is Rs295.369 million.

The total budget of Rs997.547 million has been approved for the ongoing 55 schemes. The expenditure up to June on these projects is Rs657.775 million and total allocation for the year 2009-10 is Rs329.284 million.

The budget would include the four mega projects — the establishment of Special Education Centre for Visually Handicapped Children, MRC and PHC at primary level in Gilgit, construction of Special Education Centres at Skardu, Dadu, Larkana and Karachi, and the provision of hostel facilities to Special Education Complex for Persons with Disabilities at Mardan, Faisalabad and Benazirabad.

The estimated cost for the project of ‘Special Education

Centre for Visually Handicapped Children, MRC and PHC at

primary level in Gilgit’ is Rs24.113 million, while the allocation for year 2009-10 is Rs16.575 million.

With an estimated cost of Rs38.682 million, the project of hostel facilities of Special Education Complex for Persons with Disabilities at Mardan, Faisalabad and Benazirabad will start from July 2009 with a total cost of Rs38.682 million, while its allocation for the current year is Rs12.894 million.

The construction of Special Education Centre at Karachi has an estimated cost of Rs29.131 million, and allocation for the current year is Rs15.856 million. With an estimated cost of Rs35.915 million, a Special Education Centre would be constructed at Larkana and its current allocation is Rs18.480 million.

Special Education Centre at Dadu has an estimated cost of Rs35.915 million and its current allocation is Rs18.480 million. The estimated cost of Special Education Centre at Skardu is Rs39.392 million and its allocation for the current year is Rs20.970 million.

The computerisation of National Braille Press at National Special Education Center for Visually Handicapped Children has an estimated cost of Rs27.028 million, while its allocation for the current year in Rs13.514 million.

The Vocational Training Centre for Disabled Persons at Okara has an estimated cost of Rs19.835 million and its allocation for the current year is Rs9.730 million. Establishment of 12 Vocational Dastkari Schools (VDs) at Sialkot has an estimated budget of Rs11.100 million, while Rs5.679 million has been allocated for it in the current fiscal year.

The establishment of three National Centres for Rehabilitation of Child Labour (NCRCL) at Sialkot, has an estimated cost of Rs5.700 million, where as its current allocation is Rs3.836 million.

Upgradation of Special Education Centre for Physically Handicapped Children located in Faisalabad has an estimated cost of Rs11.498 million, while the allocation for the current year is Rs5.844 million.

A total cost of Rs17.060 million has been approved for the establishment of Special Education Centre for Mentally Retarded Children and PHC at primary level at Okara, and its current allocation is Rs9.946 million.

The total budget approval including the ongoing and the new schemes is Rs1291.916 million, where total expenditures up to June 2009 are Rs657.775 million, total allocation for these projects in year 2009-10 is Rs481.088 million.
