ISLAMABAD: The government has allocated Rs 1.46 billion (1456.72 million to be precise) for the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) 16 projects in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), 2009-10.

Of the funding whose approval came during a National Economic Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday, Rs 521.45 million is for 10 ongoing projects and Rs 935.28 million for six new ones, a CDA official told Daily Times on Friday.

He said the CDA had demanded Rs 6.66 billion for 28 new and ongoing projects in the next fiscal’s PDSP but the government doled out only Rs 1.46 billion for 16 schemes.

According to the official, the six new projects, which the CDA plans to carry out in the next fiscal, include the Rs 37.43 million purchase and installation of security equipment and fire alarm system at the Cabinet Block building and the Rs 26.73 million procurement and installation of close-circuit television (CCTV) system outside parliament and installation of computers and related equipment on the premises.

The other projects are the Rs 63.7 million purchase and installation of computers and up-gradation and renovation of public address, simultaneous interpretation and automatic vote costing system in the Senate hall.

The other three new projects are the Rs 96.13 million security checks at parliament, the Rs 349.3 million construction of second hangar at the city’s heliport and the Rs 360 million construction work at the Supreme Court building.

As for the CDA’s 10 new projects, he said the NEC approved Rs 48.9 million for Aiwan-e-Sadr’s renovation, Rs 40 million for construction of residential and non-residential accommodation for police at Aiwan-e-Sadar, Rs 10.07 million for construction of the National Assembly speaker’s house and Rs 12.2 million for raising flats for the Auditor General of Pakistan Revenue (AGPR) in F-5/2.

Similarly, the CDA has got Rs 11.33 million for replacement of two elevators at ex-US big Islamabad, Rs 25.77 million for improvement of HVAC system and furnishing of residence end at Aiwan-e-Sadr, Rs 300 million for addition of third and fourth lanes to the Kashmir Highway from Peshawar Morr to Golra Morr, Rs 10.007 million for installation of ‘professional’ CCTV system in the Senate hall, 26.1 million for rehabilitation and replacement of 32 elevators at Pak Secretariat and Rs 37.98 million for installation of split air-conditioning units and fire alarm system.
