ISLAMABAD: National Engineering Services of Pakistan (NESPAK), a state controlled engineering consultancy organisation, under the administrative ambit of M/o Water and Power during April 2009 secured a total of seven projects, which included six domestic and one overseas project. Outside Pakistan, business was secured in Oman. NESPAK's fee for the projects acquired during April 2009 has been Rs 663 million, it was learnt on Thursday.

The following projects were taken up during the period under review; WASA, Lahore Project for Laying of Trunk Sewer from Shadipura to Salamatpura at a total cost of Rs 10 million. Its estimated completion date is October 31, 2009.

WASA, Lahore Project for Area Drainage Scheme for M M Alam road on Shamsuddin Road, Guru Mangat Road and Makkah Colony up to Sattu Katla Drain at a total cost of Rs 4.2 million. Its estimated completion date is also October 31, 2009.

HYCARBEX INC Islamabad Project for Foundation for Towers, Skid and Coolers at Haseeb Gas Field, Shikarpur at a total cost of Rs 1 million. Its estimated completion date is June 30, 2009.

Civic Centre Company (Pvt) Limited Project for structural stability evaluation of services International Hotel, The Mall, Lahore at a total cost Rs 800,000. Its estimated completion date is June 30, 2009.

Irrigation and Power Department, government of Punjab's project for preparation of remaining Punjab Irrigated Agriculture Investment Programme at a total cost of Rs 311.140 million. Its estimated completion date is March 31, 2013.

Ministry of Transport and Communications Oman's Project for Al-Buraimi - Safwan - AR' Rouwdhah Border Road, Oman has a total cost of Rs 35.875 million. Its estimated completion date is August 31, 2009.

Total financial costing of these projects comes to Rs 663 million.

During the entire calendar year, NESPAK engineers remained actively engaged in providing consultancy services to its clients both in Pakistan as well as overseas. At present, work is in progress on 399 projects. Out of which 73 projects are overseas, located in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, ECO States, Iran, Libya, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Some of the important domestic projects undertaken during the calendar year are:-

Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of Earthquake Affected Areas - General Consultancy, Raising of Mangla Dam, Lahore Ring Road Project, Punjab Component of National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses in Pakistan, New Islamabad International Airport, and Neelum - Jhelum Hydroelectric Project.

Sialkot - Lahore Motorway Project, Islamabad - Muzaffarabad Dual Carriageway (Section Satra Mile to Lower Topa), NUST Campus, Islamabad, Dadu-Khuzdar Power Transmission System Project and Development Works for Punjab Government Servants Housing Scheme at Mohlanwal, Lahore.

Some of the important overseas' projects undertaken by NESPAK during the calendar year are; Wadi Dayqah Dam and Water Supply Scheme-Oman, Upgrading of Roundabouts at Suwaihrah, Sohar, Sallan and Falaj Al-Qabail on Existing Batinah Highway-Oman, Alborz Integrated Water Resources and Environmental Management Project-Iran, Ahwaz Water Supply Distribution Components (implementation years 2 to 5 projects)-Iran.

Some of the main Saudi Arabia projects are: Rabigh Power Plant Extension Project Unit No 20 to 37 (Stage-V), Najran Storm Water Drainage Project, Gas Pipeline and Metering Station for Riyadh Power Plant, Shoaiba Power Plant Project, Roads in Hail Region, Dams in Western part of Saudi Arabia and Roads in Jouf, Tabouk and Northern Border Regions.

NESPAK's revenue receivables as on April 30, 2009 were Rs 1.726 billion that could be best interpreted an addition to our national economy. As a nation-building organisation in multi-disciplinary engineering sectors, NESPAK is contributing to the best of its development potential under the administrative purview of M/o Water and Power in sectors, like communication, roads, power and energy, environment, irrigation, hydel and thermal units generation and other public service projects. NESPAK being a state organisation of Consulting and Architectural Engineers under the administrative control of M/o Water and Power, since its establishment in 1973, has executed 2,950 national development projects within Pakistan and 34 in other countries of the world.
