RAWALPINDI: Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) on Monday launched a grand operation against encroachments in different parts of the city. RTMA Spokesman Tahir Mehmood Khan told Daily Times that the drive was launched on directives of District Coordination Officer (DCO) Imadadullah Bosal and Town Municipal Officer (TMO) Irfan Saleem Butt supervised it. He said two building inspectors under the supervision of Town Officer Regulation Aftab Chohan visited different areas and found three shops standing on Service Road Sadiqabad without approval of building plan. He said the RTMA staff immediately demolished these shops. He said on Saidpur Road near Hailey Water Works, the RTMA staff demolished first floor of a plaza, which was under construction without approval of its building plan. He said the team also sealed three shops on Saidpur Road, which were built illegally. He said the RTMNA demolished an under-construction house in Khayaban-e-Sir Syed Sector-II on the bank of Leh Nullah. He said RTMA personnel seized pushcarts and illegal roadside stalls in Raja Bazaar, Kashmiri Bazaar, Iqbal Road, Gunjmandi, Dingi Khoi, Jamia Masjid Road, Moti Bazaar, Sabzi Mandi, Namak Mandi, Narkari Bazaar, Liaquat Road, College Road, Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Road, Asghar Mall Scheme, Saidpur Road, Sadiqabad, Muslim Town and Banni Chowk. The seized goods were later shifted to the Rawal Town Council offices. He said the current anti-encroachment move was aimed at encroachers without discrimination. “Our campaign is against both temporary and permanent encroachers,” he said. aamir yasin
