THE Pakistan Medical Society (PMS) has warned the general public against using sliced fruits, direct exposure to dust and substandard drinks prepared through unhygienic ways which may cause fatal diseases’ outbreaks like gastroenteritis commonly called as gastro, diarrhea, hepatitis A & E, typhoid, cholera and others.

Delivering a lecture for awareness of general public regarding seasonal diseases held under the auspices of Pakistan Medical Society in collaboration with Aristotle Grammar School and Special Kids Inn at its Iqbal Town Campus on Friday, PMS Chairman Dr Masood Akhtar Sheikh said to quench thirst in the hot weather, a person needed 10-12 glassed of water but the water must be clean, boiled or filtered.

He further warned that manufacturers of substandard mineral water were playing havoc with the lives of the innocent peoples. Before using water, it should be boiled. He advised the citizens to avoid using fruits lying uncovered and other low quality eatables.

Dr Iram, Principal of the school, said one should ensure that the vessels in which the food was prepared and served were clean, so were the food handlers. She added that those who had a problem of excessive sweating should use the Skanjbeen drinks or even the ORS’ one packet a day to avoid the risk of water and salt depletion.

Miss Tayaba Sheikh, Principal Special Kids Inn, said the newborn could fall easy prey to water and salt depletion and the parents should take extra care against the dehydration of the children. She added that the special children’s needs should be paid special attention in the summer season as they could not take care by themselves.
