PROVINCIAL Minister Haji Muhammad Ishaq said the government had started classes of information technology in all government schools so that students could get awareness about the latest knowledge and play their role in national development. The IT City Project, being constructed at Lahore, will soon be completed, he added.

The minister, addressing the concluding ceremony of a seminar held regarding international information technology under the aegis of Lahore Chambers of Commerce & Industry, said the present era was of information technology and the countries of the whole world were shifting their business activities to electronic mode.

He said the information technology would not only result in expediting the pace of working but would also boost business activities, promote transparency and accountability process.

He said the government had started basic education of information technology in all schools, and computers had been provided to the schools where computer education was being imparted to the students.

He said the government had planned to computerize all the government departments in phases, and different courses were being conducted for officers and officials in this regard. He said the institutions, attached to information technology, had also been started at union council level with the cooperation of private sector where parents were showing great interest in imparting computer education to their children.

He said the government would make the province a role model with regard to information technology.

Later, the minister inaugurated the exhibition arranged by different companies.

He appreciated the items related to the latest computer technology including software, hardware and computers.
