PESHAWAR: Jamaat-e-Islami Friday announced to launch a march on Islamabad if the government failed to evolve an effective strategy to stop the increasing US drone attacks inside Pakistan.

Thousands of activists of the party took to the streets to press the government to take a courageous stance against the drone attacks. Led by their provincial chief Sirajul Haq, the JI workers were holding party flags, banners and placards inscribed with anti-US and anti-government slogans.

Having starting their protest march from Hashtnagri, the charged activists of the Jamaat after marching through different roads of the provincial metropolis reached the historic Qissa Khawani bazaar where they staged a protest rally.

Addressing the rally, Jamaat-e-Islami NWFP chief Sirjul Haq said his party workers would not tolerate the killing of innocent people. “The people from Wana to Khyber and Chitral to Peshawar would March on Islamabad incase the government failed to take proper steps to stop the drone attacks,” he said.

Coming down hard on the ANP-led NWFP government, the JI provincial chief said the ‘so-called’ nationalists had gifted lawlessness, corruption, kidnapping and price-hike to the people.

“Some foreign agents are now occupying important slots in ANP government who are not in favour of Shariah,” he said.

He asked the government to implement Nizam-e-Adle and fulfill its commitment with the people of Malakand, otherwise, Jamaat-e-Islami would besiege the Chief Minister’s House,” the JI leader said and urged the provincial government to establish Darul-Qaza within the next 48 hours.
