KARACHI: The Malir Development Authority (MDA) has neither held a draw nor returned the fees it had collected one and a half year ago through pay orders from more than 20,000 employees and officers from grade-1 to grade-18 of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) for plots to date.

These employees and officers are now becoming impatient and believe that the MDA would not proceed ahead in this regard.

Talking to Daily Times, a number of CDGK employees and officers said that the MDA had announced a housing scheme for CDGK employees one and a half years ago. “The MDA had collected amounts ranging from Rs 4500-Rs 60,000 for different categories of plots measuring 80 square yards and 120 square yards through pay orders,” the employees said while adding that they were told that the MDA would allot plots through draw in a couple of months.

They said that it has been around 18 months now and no draw has been held while the MDA has adopted a policy of silence in this regard. They demanded that the MDA should hold a draw at the earliest, as they are not going to accept a refund of the amount. “In case the MDA does not hold draw and adopts a policy to refund the collected money, we would accept the refund only with an interest that the MDA has received while the amount was deposited in a bank during the past one and a half year,” they maintained. They said that the amount paid to the MDA comes to millions of rupees while interest on that deposited money also comes in millions. They demanded that City Nazim Mustafa Kamal should look into the case, as he is the MDA chairman. irfan aligi
