ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) has directed the authorities concerned to chop down trees grown in the surroundings of important city buildings and put fire engines on standby round the clock to deal with any untoward situation. The CDA sources said the authority on the directives of the federal government had asked its Environment Directorate to fell trees and bushes present in the limits of embassies, five star hotels and recreational places, so that any potential terror threat could be warded off. They said work in this regard would be started next week. They said the CDA was purchasing modern machinery to clear the key buildings off wild vegetation and old trees, which the terrorists could use as shield. The CDA Fire Brigade Department has also been asked to remain alert to respond to any emergency promptly, the sources said. They said the CDA fire engines failed to extinguish fire, which erupted at Marriott Hotel last year following a suicide bomb blast. online
