ISLAMABAD: Experts on Friday claimed that the need for a richer communications services in Pakistan was raising the demand for 3G technologies, as huge potential exists in the country.

New services require higher speeds at an affordable cost, said Saad M Waraich, Pakistan and Afghanistan Country Director, Nokia Siemens Networks. He told journalists today that operators would have to face a huge increase in bandwidth demand. The shift from a mobile voice dominated business to a new era of data dominated services was affecting the operator’s business model and satisfying the increased bandwidth demand would only happen if the operator cost structure supports this new business model. The 3G was the most logical answer because it delivers the lowest cost per bit,” he maintained.

He claimed that the Nokia Siemens Networks provided network solutions in all the various wireless and mobile technologies and supports co-existence and migration in multi-technology environments. Speaking on the occasion Strategic Marketing Manager Nokia Siemens Networks Leslie Shannon informed the participants that the WCDMA had became the 3G platform of choice for operators across the globe, with device manufacturers competing to launch the latest HSDPA-compliant handsets. ijaz kakakhel
