The project for rehabilitation and dualisation of the Walton Road, starting from the Ferozepur Road to the Khayabane-e-Iqbal Junctions, in the Lahore cantonment area, has been completed at a cost of Rs. 221 million.

LDA Director General Shahid Mehmood said this during a meeting here on Tuesday. He said dual carriageway was 36-feet wide on each side and a separate cycle track, with a width of three feet, had also been established along both sides of the road.

The director general said the remodelling of the two junctions had also been carried out under this project, besides constructing an underground drain for quick disposal of storm water for avoiding early depletion of road and ensuring its permanence. A six-feet wide footpath has been built on this drains for pedestrians, he added.

He said that traffic safety devices had been put up on this road and separate traffic lanes had been earmarked for speedy and slow moving vehicle, besides putting up traffic signs for the convenience of vehicles.

He said the work on the Lahore Roads Rehabilitation Programme (Phase-II), at a cost of more than Rs 14 billion, was being carried out vigorously and future requirements of city traffic were also being taken care of while designing the projects.

Beside remodelling and widening of a number of existing roads as well as constructing new roads linking the far flung areas of the city, the programme also includes building of Shalimar interchange in Mughal Pura at a cost of more than Rs 2 billion.
