LAHORE

THE Estate Management Directorate of Lahore Development Authority on Monday finalised arrangements to launch an anti-encroachment drive in Sabzazar Housing Scheme from today (Tuesday).

The Authority had already served notices upon owners of the encroachments and asked them to demolish their illegal structures within two days, failing which the drive will be commenced on expiry of the period.

The drive is aimed at removing hurdles in the smooth flow of traffic as well as from walkways and service roads for pedestrians. Shopkeepers in the area had illegally extended their shops on service roads by constructing various structures and building overhead shades beyond the approved building plans of their shops, erecting huge publicity boards and creating other nuisance for people.

Meanwhile, LDA removed encroachments from Shadman Market on Monday. The locality has been declared as a Model Area by the Punjab Government. The LDA staff removed the encroachments from footpaths and cleared these for people.

In the meantime, the Town Planning Wing of LDA is carrying out a drive against private housing schemes, which have been launched without fulfilling legal requirements. All signboards of such housing schemes placed at different points along Raiwind Road up till the Raiwind City were removed on Monday.

The Town Planning Directorate staff demolished the site office of Munawar Town housing scheme, which was being set up in the area earmarked by LDA for two new residential schemes in the City.

The Metropolitan Planning Wing of LDA has already notified a list of 116 private housing schemes that had been launched without getting approval by the competent authority as well as fulfilling other modalities. The people had been advised against sale and purchase of plots situated in these housing schemes.
