A 30-bed neurosurgery department has been established on the second floor of the accident and emergency block of the Mayo Hospital.
According to a press release here on Wednesday, Mayo Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Zahid Pervaiz said that Prof Dr Tariq Jamil, consultant neurosurgeon, would head the newly established department. He said the department and its operation theatre would remain functional to provide around the clock services to patients.
Earlier, there used to be a couple of beds mostly scattered in various surgical units of the hospital and the patients badly suffered because of the lack of a proper neurosurgery ward under one roof.
The Patients Welfare Association has praised the decision, saying that it would be of tremendous help to patients.
